The Investors in People UK annual report released on 17th July 2008 highlights great progress with its mission to raise the business performance of organisations and improve the productivity of the UK economy overall.

The annual report contains a wide-ranging collection of case studies which illustrate just how relevant the Investors in People framework remains, and how employers of all sizes and sectors benefit from working with it.  Testament to the success of Investors in People UK is the fact that 32% of the UK workforce now works in a recognised Investors in People organisation.

The report also notes the CBI’s recent endorsement of Investors in People in their Education and Skills Survey, which commented “Investors in People provides a particularly useful framework for businesses undergoing significant and rapid change”. The report findings were reinforced by research undertaken by the Central Office of Information which demonstrates that Investors in People helps organisations step up a gear and embrace new challenges to secure competitive advantage and reap bottom line benefits even during times of economic uncertainty.

A significant achievement for Investors in People UK during the year was the unveiling of Interactive – a free online business support tool. Interactive features best practice advice, templates, downloads and a free 15 minute diagnostic. The tool guide users through development activities to help transform their business. Interactive can be accessed at: www.investorsinpeople.co.uk/interactive

Notes to editor:

Investors in People:

  • The Investors in People Standard provides a practical framework for improving business performance and competitiveness through good practice in human resource development.
  • An organisation that has achieved the Standard has been successful in adopting and maintaining its three fundamental principles: Plan - developing strategies to improve the performance of the organisation, from business goals to leadership strategies; Do - implementing those strategies, taking action to improve the performance of the organisation; Review - evaluating and adjusting those strategies, measuring their impact on the performance of the organisation.
  • The Investors in People Standard and Profile are promoted and developed by Investors in People UK – an organisation whose main stakeholder is the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
  • The Investors in People Standard is delivered by a partner network:
    1. In England, the network of Investors in People Centres.
    2. In Scotland, Scottish Enterprise (SE) or Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).
    3. In Wales, the Business Skills Delivery Team at the Department for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Welsh Assembly Government.
    4. In Northern Ireland, the Department for Employment of Learning
